Cartelier

Terms of Service

Effective August 14, 2026

1. What Cartelier is

Cartelier is a historical database of restaurants and bars — menus, dishes, drinks, people, and accolades, preserved with their source, hash, and date. By using cartelier.io you agree to these terms.

2. The archive

Archive content is preserved from publicly available sources (restaurant websites and published documents) and from materials submitted by the venues themselves. Menus and their contents remain the property of the venues that created them; Cartelier preserves them as historical record, with provenance, in the way a library preserves publications. The structure, curation, and presentation of the archive are Cartelier's.

If you hold rights in preserved material and believe its inclusion is improper, write to archive@cartelier.io or use “Report an issue” on the page in question. We review every report; corrections produce new, attributed revisions rather than silent edits.

3. Accounts

You need an account to submit content, claim a venue, or keep a dining record. Keep your credentials to yourself; you are responsible for activity under your account. We may suspend accounts that abuse the service or the archive's integrity.

4. Venue claims and team roles

Claiming a venue asserts that you represent it. Claims are reviewed (the first claim on an unclaimed venue is granted immediately and reviewed afterward), and misrepresenting an affiliation is grounds for removal. Roles granted through claims control what you can do — uploads, corrections, venue information — and everything a team does is recorded with attribution.

5. What you submit

When you upload a menu, submit a correction, report an issue, log a visit, or provide any other material, you grant Cartelier a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to preserve, process, display, and distribute it as part of the archive. You confirm you have the right to submit it. Uploaded documents are preserved immutably; the archive's value depends on submissions never being silently altered — including by us.

6. Acceptable use

Don't submit material you have no right to share, misrepresent provenance, scrape the service at volumes that degrade it, attempt to access other users' data, or use the archive to harass venues or people. Automated access for research is welcome in moderation — write to us for anything substantial.

7. Disclaimers

The archive is provided as-is. We work hard on accuracy — every fact traces to a source — but historical records contain errors, and extraction from documents is imperfect. Cartelier makes no warranty that any entry is complete or current, and menus preserved here do not represent what a venue serves today. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Cartelier's liability arising from use of the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the past twelve months (for a free service: nothing).

8. Changes

We may update these terms; material changes will be announced on the site or by email. Continued use after a change is acceptance. Questions: archive@cartelier.io.
