Mahaniyom is a 24-seat Thai small-plates and cocktail bar in Brookline Village, opened in February 2020 by Chompon Boonnak and Smuch Saikamthorn, childhood friends from Thailand's Phetchabun province who met again in Boston after university. The kitchen works in shareable portions modeled on the ran lao, the plain neighborhood drinking spots of Thailand, with a one-page menu that runs from pomelo salad with grilled tiger prawns, cashews and toasted coconut to kang pu, a house red curry of crabmeat and coconut milk poured over rice vermicelli with cabbage and bean sprouts. Boonnak's bar rebuilds standards with Thai ingredients, among them a Sazerac made with rye steeped in Thai tea.
