Brandon Jew, a San Francisco native who cooked in Italy and Shanghai before working under Judy Rodgers at Zuni Café and Michael Tusk at Quince, left the executive chef post at Bar Agricole to open Mister Jiu's in April 2016 in the former Four Seas Restaurant building on Waverly Place in San Francisco's Chinatown. As owner and executive chef there, and of the adjoining Moongate Lounge, he also serves as chef-partner in the Mamahuhu group. Mister Jiu's has held a Michelin star since its early years and placed third on Bon Appétit's 2017 Hot 10; Jew received the James Beard Award for Best Chef: California in 2022, the same year his book with Tienlon Ho, 'Mister Jiu's in Chinatown,' won a James Beard award in the restaurant and professional category.
